Basics

What is a damage report?

A damage report documents all the damage your vehicle suffered in an accident or damaging event. It serves as legal proof of the damage to the vehicle, towards the insurer and in court.

Whether a parking bump, hail, marten damage or a collision with wildlife: the report establishes the extent and costs in a traceable way and is the basis for insurance settlement and resolving disputes.

When do I need this?

Typical reasons for a damage report

  • Comprehensive-insurance damage

Hail, marten, wildlife, theft: your comprehensive insurer often requires proof from an expert.

  • Dispute over the repair method

Garage and insurer can't agree? A neutral report creates clarity.

  • Securing evidence before a sale

Document existing damage before you hand over your vehicle.

Liability

Who pays the bill?

Someone else at fault

Typical: The other party ran into the back of you, ignored your right of way or damaged your parked vehicle.

Commission the damage report yourself: an independent expert secures your full claim.

The at-fault party's liability insurer, 100% free of charge for you.

Partial fault

Typical: Unclear sequence of events, reversing at the moment of impact, an overtaking manoeuvre or an accident involving more vulnerable road users.

Tell us briefly about your accident. Based on over 20,000 cases, we'll give you a free initial assessment.

Proportionally, depending on the liability split; a free report is often possible.

Your own fault

Typical: You ran into the back of someone, ignored a right of way or clipped a parked vehicle.

Report the damage to your insurer; a report is possible via your fully comprehensive cover.

Your fully comprehensive insurer commissions and pays for the report.

Costs & payment

Free of charge when someone else is at fault

Typical range: €300-1,000

Costs usually range between €300 and €1,000, depending on the type of vehicle (car, truck, motorcycle), the extent of the damage and the effort involved. When fault is clear, the at-fault party's insurer covers the costs.

When someone else is at fault you don't pay a cent. Via a declaration of assignment we bill the other party's insurer directly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Damage report

Do I need a report for comprehensive-insurance damage?
Many comprehensive insurers require an expert report above a certain damage amount. We clarify this in advance together with your insurer.
Do you also assess very small damage?
Yes, but we'll advise you honestly whether the report is worth it financially or whether a cost estimate is enough.
What does diminished value mean?
A repaired accident car is worth less on the used market than an accident-free vehicle. Market-related diminished value compensates for this disadvantage.
How does it work with hail damage?
We document every dent with a measuring system and produce a calculated repair-cost estimate, recognised by all major comprehensive insurers.
